Reports to: Senior Manager or Managing Partner

General Description:

The Manager is responsible for reviewing the preparation of clients’ financial statements, tax returns and complying with clients’ statutory filing requirements.  In addition this position is responsible for the supervision of the senior accountant.

Major Tasks and Duties:

  • Review year end financial statements and related working papers for audits, reviews and compilations
  • Review Corporate and Personal income tax returns; Trust, Not for Profit and other information returns and schedules
  • Liase with clients during field work for audits, reviews and compilations
  • Perform follow up with clients and Canada Revenue Agency
  • Income tax research and other partner support
  • Attend client meetings with senior staff and partners
  • Prepare management letters
  • Supervise senior accountant and junior accounting staff
  • Assist with staff training
  • Assist with in-house computer system coordination
  • Manage the firm’s time and billings in coordination with the senior manager
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • CPA Credentials

Experience

  • Minimum of three years experience in public practice accounting

Knowledge and skills

  • Basic working knowledge of the CICA Handbook
  • Basic working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act
  • Basic working knowledge of the CGA Public Practice Manual
  • Basic working knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation

Information Technology

  • Above average  working knowledge of computers and their operations
  • In-depth knowledge of working paper software programs such as Caseware
  • In depth knowledge of accounting programs such as Simply Accounting and Quickbooks
  • Excellent working knowledge of other software programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word
